Japheth It seems that the Greeks should have been - from the point of view of the Bible - among the descendants of Japheth. In this regard, the creators of the Bible could even be influenced by the myths of the Greeks, which reached them in fragments from the west. For example, Japheth himself was sometimes identified with the titan Iapetus

For many centuries, the biblical story of the birth curse imposed by Noah on his grandson excited the minds of millions. According to Scripture, the patriarch, after tasting wine, became very drunk and fell asleep naked in his tent.

Ham, one of his sons, seeing his father in an obscene form, hurried to tell the brothers about it. For this act, Noah cursed Canaan - the son of Ham ...

This event took place several millennia BC. So, who are Noah, Ham and why the patriarch cursed his grandson, and not his son, the culprit himself, and what was the sin of Ham - this will be discussed in our article.

Noah is the only righteous man in his generation

Noah, repeatedly mentioned in the Bible, belonged to the tenth generation of the Old Testament patriarchs, descended in a direct line from Adam. The Orthodox Church honors him as a Saint.

Forefather Noah, Byzantium, XIV c. Master: Manuil Panselin, location: Greece. Athos, Kareia, Protat, Church of the Assumption of the Virgin

Being the only righteous and blameless in his generation, Noah was saved by the Lord from the Flood and was chosen for the rebirth of the human race.

The Flood destroyed mankind on earth, only Noah and his family, by the will of God, were saved

According to the Bible Scripture, God, seeing how great the corruption and wickedness of people, decided to take the life of every creature on earth. Only Noah was informed in advance of his decision.

The Lord commanded the righteous man to build an ark to save his family and all kinds of animals and birds from each kind from the Flood,

The forefather accepted the commandment of God with faith and, ridiculed by those around him, began to build an ark.

By the beginning of construction, the righteous man was 500 years old and had three sons - the eldest, Shem, middle, Ham and the youngest, Japheth.

Noah became a father late. For a long time, being a witness of the fall of mankind and foreseeing its death, he did not want to have children and only at the command of the Lord entered into marriage.

At the end of the construction of the ark, God ordered Noah to climb on it, taking with him all the members of his family, all the animals and birds in pairs, and all kinds of food.

The righteous man was six hundred years old when the Flood began. For forty days and nights it rained on the earth - the highest mountains were covered with water, the level of which rose for another one hundred and fifty days, destroying all people and animals. Only the inhabitants of the ark were saved.

According to the Scriptures, after the flood, only one family remained on earth - the righteous Noah. The Lord blessed the forefather and his descendants, and commanded them to be fruitful and multiply, and not allow bloodshed. On the land cleansed by the waters, now only pious people were to live.

Noah, his sons - Shem, Ham and Japheth, became the ancestors of all subsequent generations. After the flood, Noah lived another three hundred and fifty years, up to nine hundred and fifty years. He was the last to reach such a deep old age.

Ham is the middle son of Noah, brother of Shem and Japheth

The Bible says:

"The sons of Noah that came out of the ark were Shem, Ham and Japheth."

The middle son of the patriarch was born 100 years before the Flood, when his father was almost 500 years old.

Like all the survivors, he stepped off the ark on the slopes of Mount Ararat and lived for a long time in the land of Shinar. His wife Yuga (Neelatamek) bore him four sons Cush, Mizraim, Fut and Canaan.

Ham is called the ancestor of the four races that descended from his sons and inhabited the regions of southern Asia and the upper reaches of the Nile.

The Egyptians, the Ethiopians, the Libyans, the Somalis, and the entire Negroid race are descended from him, and call them the Hamites. The Philistines, Phoenicians, Canaanites are also his descendants.

According to the biblical story, Ham behaved shamefully towards his father, for which Noah cursed his youngest son Canaan.

Noah and Ham: the biblical story of a generational curse

According to the Bible, the first thing Noah did when he got out of the ark was to make a sacrifice of thanksgiving to God. It was an animal sacrifice by burnt offering.

Then the Lord blessed the righteous man and his family, and made a covenant with him. He bequeathed to them to be fruitful and fill the earth, and also never to allow bloodshed.

The symbol of the covenant was the rainbow, which became a kind of guarantee that people would no longer be destroyed by water from the earth. Since then, it has served as an eternal reminder to man of this promise of God.

Coming out of the Ark, Noah began to cultivate the land, planted vineyards and invented the art of making wine. One day, heavily intoxicated with wine, he fell asleep naked in his tent.

Ham, who accidentally saw his father's nakedness, left him like this and, laughing, hurried to tell his brothers about what he had seen.

Those, in turn, showed deep respect for their parent - throwing clothes over their shoulders, they went from behind, so as not to see their father's nakedness and covered him.

Noah, learning about the disrespect shown by Ham, cursed and made his son Canaan and his descendants a slave, saying that they would become slaves of Shem and Japheth.

He blessed the other sons - Shem and Japheth, for the respect shown to the parent.

There are several suggestions regarding the question: Why did Noah curse Canaan and not Ham

Noah awoke from his wine and knew what his younger son had done to him, and said, Cursed is Canaan; he will be a servant of servants to his brothers. (Gen. 9.24-25)

For centuries, this biblical story of a curse caused a lot of controversy. What is the sin of Ham? Why did Noah curse Canaan and not his son?

John Chrysostom suggests that the righteous man, the father of Ham, could not break the curse of the blessing given by the Lord to him and his family. But still it was necessary to punish the son for the obscenity of the act.

Righteous Noah punished Ham through his son Canaan.

Most of all, embodying the typical features of his father, Canaan was especially dear and close to him. Thus, it was by cursing the son of Ham that the patriarch inflicted the most severe punishment on him. This was the paternal curse of Ham.

Speaking about the intoxication of the forefather, John Chrysostom notes that the Bible "gives him a full excuse." According to him, the righteous man did not know what harm the use of wine could bring him.

Blessed Theodoret also sees in this a just reward for Ham. Having sinned against his father, he received punishment through the curse of his son.

The curse of Noah came true - the Canaanites were either exterminated or subjugated by the descendants of Shem.

Others, referring to what is said in Scripture: “Noah woke up from his wine and knew what his younger son had done to him,” suggest that the “little son” means Noah’s grandson Canaan, the youngest of all his grandsons.

Since it is known that Ham was the middle son of the righteous, born after Shem, and Japheth is the younger brother of Ham.

It was Canaan who first saw the obscene position of the righteous elder. Laughing, he pointed it out to his father, who, in turn, instead of covering his nakedness, thereby showing due respect to the parent, hastened to tell everything to the brothers.

Supporters of this opinion believe that Canaan, who committed evil, was cursed not for his father, but for his offense. Although they do not consider the punishment completely fair, because Canaan was still at a young age.

The name Ham is a common noun, derived from it - the concept of "rudeness"

The origin of the word "ham" is associated with the name of the biblical character, Ham - the middle of the three sons of the righteous Noah.

However, over time, its meaning gradually changed, turning into a word meaning such negative qualities as arrogance, rudeness, and deep disrespect for one's neighbor.

Translated from Hebrew, “ham” means “passion”, “ardor”.

According to Scripture, the biblical Ham saw his father sleeping naked in his tent. Instead of paying due respect to him - to cover the nakedness of his father, he hastened to tell his brothers about it.

The corrupted nature of Ham is seen in his act: not embarrassed by what he saw and doing nothing, he hastened to put his father in an unsightly light in front of his brothers.

At the same time, he experienced malicious joy in the humiliation of a parent, pride, comforted by the fall of another.

Ham's disrespect for a parent brought not only a curse on his son Canaan and his descendants, but also made his name a household name.

The unworthy behavior of Ham laid the foundation for the concept of "rudeness".

For a long time, rudeness was considered a characteristic feature of the lower classes. In the dictionary of Vladimir Dahl, "hamuga" is a swearing nickname for lackeys, serfs or servants; serf.

Over time, the meaning of the word gradually changed and began to mean a peculiar characteristic of a person's behavior model - ill-mannered, arrogant, rude.

2 proverbs about rudeness:

  1. "By the beard Abraham, and by deeds - Ham."
  2. "From the boor there will be no pan."

In the modern world, to act in a boorish way means to behave impolitely, shamelessly, in the most harsh form, in relation to another person.

This meaning for the word "ham" is typical for many languages of the world.

Question: "Please explain to me what Ham did? He was cursed only because he saw the nakedness of his father or for telling other brothers. What lesson can be learned from this incident for everyday life?"

Peace be with you, Sergey!

Here is the passage you are asking about:

The sons of Noah that came out of the ark were Shem, Ham, and Japheth. Ham was the father of Canaan. These three were the sons of Noah, and from them the whole earth was peopled.

Noah began to till the land and planted a vineyard; and he drank the wine, and became drunk, and [lay] naked in his tent.

And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father, and going out told his two brothers. Shem and Japheth took a garment, and laying it on their shoulders, they went backwards and covered the nakedness of their father; their faces were turned back, and they did not see the nakedness of their father.

Noah awoke from his wine and knew what his younger son had done to him, and said, Cursed is Canaan; he will be a servant of servants to his brothers. Then he said: Blessed be the Lord, the God of Shem; Canaan will be his servant; may God expand Japheth, and may he dwell in the tents of Shem; Canaan will be his slave."

To understand the essence of the prophecy, it is very important for us to understand that of all the people saved from the flood, only Noah was called righteous, but not his sons, because each person chooses the path of relationship with God. Although Noah himself stood firm and built the ark, although his sons helped him, yet that antediluvian world managed to pervert the character of one of these sons. And although all three sons entered the ark, yet they entered there as adults, with already formed characters.

Now let's try to figure out why Ham's act was perceived as terrible, requiring punishment? "So what? - say you and very many other people. - So what? I saw the nakedness of my father. And even if it’s wrong, but anything can happen.” The fact of the matter is that anything can happen, but a person behaves in relation to this "everyone" depending on the state of his heart. What a heart - such a reaction to the current situation.

All three sons knew well that it was wrong to see their father naked. But they also knew that anything could happen. However, one of them reacted to what happened in a very, very wrong way. Question: why did Ham suddenly run to the brothers to tell that their respected, God-fearing father, whom God Himself called righteous, was lying naked in the tent?

Let's put ourselves in the place of Ham and think about what could move him: love and respect for his father or a desire to humiliate his father in the eyes of his other children?

If it were love and respect, wouldn't it be necessary to remain silent? if his heart were pure, loving, devoid of envy, would he not secretly bring a veil to hide the nakedness of the one whom he loved and respected from the eyes of those whom he also loved and respected, so that they would not suddenly find themselves in the wrong situation, in which he himself turned out to be?

The father, who came to his senses after an unexpected intoxication, simply sums up the CHARACTER of Ham. With such a character, a person will always be only a slave.

Thus, the curse fell on Ham not because he was in a situation that was clearly beyond his control, not because he unexpectedly saw his father's nakedness, but because of how he reacted to this situation, for what he did to her.

This is a lesson for us too. If a person rejoices that his father has fallen and clearly falls short of the title of a righteous man, then such a person cannot be anything but a slave (a slave of circumstances, a slave of his desires, a slave of evil). A free person with a pure heart always lives "in" the fifth commandment of respect for father and mother ().

And now I invite you to carefully read the words of Noah: “Cursed be Canaan; he will be a servant of servants to his brothers. Then he said: Blessed be the Lord, the God of Shem; Canaan will be his servant; may God expand Japheth, and may he dwell in the tents of Shem; Canaan will be his slave."

Do you see that the curse did not fall directly on Ham, but on one of the sons of Ham?

Ham had four sons "Sons of Ham: Cush, Mizraim, Fut and Canaan" (). So, in his prophecy, Noah for some reason did not say “Cursed is Ham”, because it was Ham who behaved in an unworthy manner, but transferred the curse to Ham’s son – Canaan.

As a rule, this strangeness of Noah's prophecy is explained by the fact that before this incident God blessed Noah and his three sons, and therefore Noah could not utter a curse on one of those who were already blessed. However, I personally have a different point of view.

The fact is that Cush, Matzraim, Fut and Canaan were flesh of flesh, bone of Hamov's bone, i.e. they were, in a sense, Ham himself. So the curse did not fall on the whole of Ham, i.e. not on all of his immediate descendants, but only on the fourth part of Ham, on one of his four sons, who, probably, was either very much like his father in character, or even worse than his father in the sense that the negative character traits of the father were still developed to a greater extent in Canaan. Thus, the curse fell not on all the descendants of Ham, but only on the worst part of them, on those who decided to walk in the ways of Ham, whose heart was filled with evil, which led to a very wrong (sinful) deed.

Sincerely,

Read more on the topic "Interpretation of Scripture":

The film "Noah" - the original name "Noah" (in the Hebrew transliteration of this biblical name), can not leave anyone indifferent.

It turns out that we are all Semites! This is the main component of the plot of the film by the American director, Darren Aronofsky.

It turns out that only Shem of the sons of Noah entered the ark with his wife.

Noah's other two sons were less fortunate.

But Shem's wife has twins in the ark? And this means that the human race will continue, and it is from the children of Shem.

But the most interesting is next! It turns out that Noah is not a forerunner of possible salvation in the ark, which (the ark) in the Christian tradition is a type of the Church. Against! He (Noah) very aggressively resists any attempts to break into the ark from outside his family.

And moreover, he condemns in every possible way the members of his family to death, and even tries to kill the grandchildren born in the ark.

Of course, the plot of the film has nothing to do with the biblical Noah, and if it were not for the excellent performance of Russell Crowley, then I would have thought that I spent the evening at the cinema in vain.

Now let's turn to the biblical text itself, which tells about the events of the Flood, and to the true story of the biblical Noah:

“Here is the life of Noah: Noah was a righteous man and blameless in his generation; Noah walked with God. Noah had three sons: Shem, Ham and Japheth. But the earth was corrupt before the face of God, and the earth was filled with evil deeds. And [the Lord] God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupted, for all flesh had perverted its way on earth” (Genesis 6:9-12).

So, you and I read that "Noah walked with God." What does it mean? The literal translation will turn out: Noah walked with God, that is, he seemed to lean on God - on his own he could not survive in that situation! Noah walked where the Lord directed him, so it would be more correct to say that Noah followed God: where the Lord pointed him, he went there.

Was Noah a righteous and blameless man in terms of the Christian faith? Quite a difficult question. Because it is said that he "was a righteous man and blameless in his generations." This addition: “in his generation” tells us that if Noah had lived in another time, he might have been considered a sinner. But in his kind, in his generation, he was the best man. There was no more pious person. And if he had lived in the days of Moses, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, perhaps the attitude towards him would have been completely different. But you can understand these words: “in his generation” and otherwise: even in this kind, in such times, he remained righteous, and this will be another characteristic of Noah.

This is due to the fact that a whole generation of people was corrupted, and it was very difficult to maintain righteousness and integrity. The Hebrew word for “righteous” is “tzaddik,” which means “a whole person.” Since the word “tzaddik” and the word “tsedakah” (“almsgiving”) are similar, the righteous, first of all, is the one who gives, donates, lends, that is, lives more in the interests of others than his own, and above all gives all his life in the service of God. But in any case, this expression: "in his generation" - somehow sets off all of the above about Noah.

The name Noah means "comfort". "Noah" - "he who comforts in sorrow." His father Lamech, which means "weakness", gave him such a name because the crisis was already widespread. First, the moral crisis took hold of the Cainites (the wicked descendants of Cain), then this process spreads to the Sethites (descendants of the righteous Seth), even the names of these lines coincide. And Lamech, Noah's father, puts his hope in him. And gives him a name, which is also a spiritual characteristic.

The holy fathers believed that at that time names were given in prophetic illumination, the name meant the spiritual characteristic of a person.

And now Noah has three sons: Shem, Ham and Japheth. The name Shem - in Hebrew "Shem" - is translated as "one who glorified his name." And indeed, the entire Jewish people comes from Shem: this is a galaxy of God's prophets, and the apostles of Jesus Christ, whose names are known all over the world. And from Shem - through Abraham and Hagar - comes the whole Arab world.

Noah's other son is Ham. The sons of Noah are the ancestors of the human races, and it is very important for us to understand their racial characteristics. "Ham" - means "heat", "hotness", "passion". Negroids descended from Ham.

And the third son of Noah, a very important person for us, Japheth, "Japheth" in Hebrew. This name means "beauty" and comes from the word "yafe" - "beautiful". It also means "spread", "expansion", from the verb "sweat" - "give room".

Indeed, the European peoples of the so-called Indo-Aryan group descend from Japheth. These peoples are the most widespread in the whole world, the entire Western Hemisphere is the descendants of Japheth (North and South America), all of Europe. If you open Nestor's Tale of Bygone Years, then Nestor writes that the Slavs are from Japheth. And indeed, those civilizations that were created by the Japhethians, these are the ancient civilizations of Greece, Rome, it was a beautiful world ... And when this world became churched, then all the best that the Japhetians achieved, they churched, brought to the Christian Church. Japheth is also the civilization of Holy Rus'!

So, the sons of Noah - Shem, Ham and Japheth - are the ancestors of the human races.

“And [the Lord] God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupted, for all flesh had perverted its way on earth” (Genesis 6:12). How to understand these words? Interpreters say that at that time sexual perversions were very strong. And not only among humans, but also among animals. A wild mix has begun! This is also associated with the fact that the two lines - Sethites and Cainites - began to mix, and this is unacceptable when unbelieving daughters-in-law or unbelieving grooms are taken into the house of believers, this is unacceptable! And chaos entered the world, and the Flood occurs ...

And when the Flood ended, eight souls were saved from the waters: Noah, his wife named Noema, Shem, Ham, Japheth with their wives. The fact that Noah had Noah's wife is just a version. The point is that Noema belonged to the Cainites (Genesis 4:22). And those commentators who claim that she was the wife of Noah are building their assumptions only on the grounds that it is outwardly difficult to explain why the name of Noah suddenly appears in the genealogies of the Cainites. And this name is close to the name Noah (Noah) in terms of the root basis, as, for example, Oleg - Olga. And they concluded that Noema was Noah's wife. And through her, these Hamitic blood penetrated into the new world, it was not possible to sink all this. In the church, the words of the prayer are sometimes pronounced: “Cleanse me from demonic blood, Lord!”, which is what is meant.

But there is, indeed, a text in the Bible that says: “Beware, my son, of every kind of debauchery. Take yourself a wife from the tribe of your fathers, but do not take a foreign wife who is not from the tribe of your father, for we are the sons of the prophets. From ancient times our fathers - Noah, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Remember, my son, that they all took wives from among their brothers and were blessed in their children, and their offspring will inherit the land” (Tov. 4, 12). At least, there is such a version that through Noah the world of Cain entered, having passed the waters of the Flood, to the new earth ...

And so the people come out of the ark. It is said: “And God blessed Noah and his sons, and said to them: be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth [and subdue it]” (Genesis 9:1). Here it is very important for us to pay attention to the fact that when they came out of the ark, God blessed them. There is a teaching of the Church (it is, in fact, a biblical teaching): that which God has blessed, man has no right to curse.

And then people begin to live on earth, God gives them different laws, including the so-called "Laws of Noah." The laws of Noah are considered binding on all people, believers and non-believers. It is believed that on the Day of Judgment these laws will be asked of everyone. These laws are placed in the 9th chapter.

It says here: “Let all the beasts of the earth fear and tremble at you, [and all the cattle of the earth] and all the birds of the air, everything that moves on the earth, and all the fish of the sea: they are given into your hands; everything that moves that lives will be food for you; like green grass I give you everything” (Genesis 9:2-3). That is, before the Flood, people did not eat meat. It was only after the Flood that God commanded people to eat meat.

Then there are such laws of Noah: “Only flesh with its soul, with its blood, do not eat” (Gen. 9, 4). It is impossible, if the soul is still in the animal, that is, the blood is not drained, cut off a piece, fry it and eat it. No blood is allowed for consumption in any form! This is a hard law. It is said: “I will also seek your blood, in which is your life” (Genesis 9:5).

This law is confirmed in the Law of Moses, this law is confirmed in the book of the Acts of the Holy Apostles, at the First Apostolic Council in Jerusalem, when it was decreed that Christians "... refrain from defilement with idols, from fornication, strangled and blood ..." (Acts 15, 20 ). What is a "strangle"? - This is when the blood is not drained. And in the rules of the Church of Local and Ecumenical Councils it is said: “If a bishop, presbyter, deacon tastes blood, let him be deposed from the dignity. If a layman eats blood, let him be excommunicated from the Church.” That is, at all levels: after the Flood it was established, and Moses confirmed it, and the prophets talk about it, and the apostolic council confirmed it, and the rules of the Local and Ecumenical Councils, and the holy fathers repeatedly confirmed this rule, because blood - always modest! Therefore, Christians cannot eat any blood sausages, bloody steaks, bloody steaks.

Further it is said: “I will also exact your blood, in which your life is, I will exact it from every beast (that is, if the beast gores a person, it is said in the law, then this beast must be killed - O. S.), I will also exact the soul of a person from the hand man, from the hand of his brother” (Genesis 9:5). Here the Bible establishes the death penalty for murder; the killer must be killed. This is the first such testimony from the word of God.

By the way, a very interesting detail: the ancients, who studied the Scriptures very carefully, paid attention to the fact that if a phenomenon is described in the Bible for the first time, then this is a key situation. If you then want to understand what this phenomenon means, pay attention to its first description. Then you will understand what is at stake.

“Whoever sheds human blood, that blood will be shed by the hand of man (that is, there must be a fair judgment - O. S.): for man was created in the image of God” (Gen. 9, 6). Here the status of a person is established. Ancient tradition adds to the commandments of Noah, the prohibition of fornication, idolatry and blasphemy.

And further God confirms: "But you be fruitful and multiply, and spread over the earth, and multiply on it" (Gen. 9, 7). This commandment: "be fruitful and multiply" stops fornication. This commandment is against fornication. Because the Scripture says: “It is better to marry than to be inflamed” (1 Cor. 7, 9). And this commandment: “be fruitful and multiply” teaches us that as many children God sends, there should be as many. If it were said: “be fruitful,” then it would be enough to have one child, well, two: one boy, one girl. But here it says, “multiply”! And it adds: "and spread" - this is definitely more than one or two. That is, how many the Lord sends, so many children should be.

So, the family lives in the Ararat valley. And it is said: “These three were the sons of Noah, and from them the whole earth was peopled” (Genesis 9:19). That is, we are all their descendants, and Shem, Ham and Japheth are the ancestors of the human races.

“Noah began to till the land and planted a vineyard; and he drank the wine, and became drunk, and lay naked in his tent” (Genesis 9:20-21). And some say that Noah, since this is the first mention of wine, did not know what wine was. He planted a vineyard, made juice, left the juice pots in the sun, they fermented, and wine came out.

“And he drank the wine, and became drunk, and lay naked in his tent. And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father, and going out told his two brothers” (Genesis 9:21-22).

Why is Ham called the father of Canaan? There is such an interpretation: when they were in the ark, sailed for quite a long time, they made a vow that during the sailing they would not have sexual relations with their wives.

And only Ham broke this vow, and from this violation Canaan was born. Because no other children are mentioned.

In the movie "Noah", for some reason Sim sins with this ...

“And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father, and went out and told his two brothers” (Genesis 9:22). And here the question arises: how should we treat if we see the nakedness of our parents? If we see the nakedness of a father, mother, if we see the nakedness of our spiritual fathers, shepherds and archpastors, seeing (hearing) some rumors are being heard that this or that one has committed some kind of terrible sin?

Noah was primarily the religious leader of this community. He was a real patriarch in his family. But does grace work through unworthy servants of the Church? Ephraim the Syrian writes that if one who has received the priesthood is unworthy, then grace still continues to act. And when Noah behaved unworthily, his sons had to literally turn a blind eye to what happened.

The act of Ham, that he condemned his father, gave the name to this crime. Anyone who does not honor elders is called a boor. What Ham is doing is, indeed, rudeness in the full sense of the word!

“And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father, and went out and told his two brothers. Shem and Japheth took clothes and, putting them on their shoulders, went backwards (actually, closing their eyes - O. S.) and covered the nakedness of their father; their faces were turned back, and they did not see the nakedness of their father. Noah woke up from his wine and knew what his younger son had done to him” (Genesis 9:22-24).

And then we read words that are a little incomprehensible: “And he said, Cursed is Canaan; he will be a servant of servants to his brothers” (Genesis 9:25). Noah does not curse Ham, he curses the son of Ham, his grandson Canaan. Why? But because when they came out of the ark, God blessed them all! And what God has blessed - no one has the right to curse.

So the curse falls not on Ham, but on Canaan. “and said (Noah - O. S.): Cursed is Canaan; he will be a servant of servants to his brothers” (Genesis 9:25)! Indeed, brothers and sisters: Africa is the land of Ham! You know how these peoples live - they are still tormented by this curse, which fell on an entire race of Negroids.

Further, it is said about Japheth, our forefather, from whom we descended, the Slavs: “May God spread Japheth, and may he dwell in the tents of Simov; Canaan will be his servant” (Genesis 9:27). So, the name Japheth - we have already found out - means "common", "beautiful", but what do the words mean that Japheth will move into the tents of Shem? After all, if you literally understand the meaning of these words: he will not just move in, he will be the host in the tents of Shem, move. What is the "tent of Shem"? This is the Holy Scripture, which was written by Semites, people of Jewish nationality. And in Jesus Christ the nations descended from Japheth received the Holy Scriptures as their heritage (Isaiah 29:11-12; 2 Peter 2:10). We are the new children of Abraham! And the Jews “…when they read Moses, a veil lies over their heart; but when they turn to the Lord, then this veil is removed” (2 Cor. 3, 15-16). They do not fully understand the meaning of Divine Revelation. Only in the Christian Church is the fullness of the Revelation of the word of God given.

But the entire Old Testament is the history of the Old Testament Church! And in the 10th chapter, verse 21, it is said: “Shem, the father of all the sons of Eber, also had children (here, the name “Eber” is encountered for the first time, from which the word “Jew” will later turn out - O. S.) ” (Gen. 10, 21). That is, Japheth has not yet moved into the tents of Shem - the true religion was for a long time the property of only the Jewish people. But after the day of Pentecost, many nations joined this faith (Mt. 29:19).

If we return to the reasoning about the film, then without a doubt any attempt to distort the biblical reality, especially in the description of the life of the prophets, is the sin of the Hams.

To be honest, when they showed naked Noah (i.e. actor Russell Crowley), I, remembering the sin of Ham, immediately hurried to close my eyes.

And he was upset: why did I come here?
